Our Mission

The DeFeo Family Farm is focused on improving the health of our community by serving as a trusted steward of the land, providing access to local food products, and offering education on ways to creatively embrace a wide variety of nutritious foods.

To accomplish this mission, we are cultivating a biodiverse farm that supports our local food supply, inspires curiosity in nature, and uses farming practices that minimize negative environmental impacts.

We also collaborate with community partners in order to share our harvest and support individuals as they adopt healthy lifestyle changes.

Veggie Share (CSA) Subscription

We want to be your farmers!

Our Veggie Share subscription (otherwise known as a Community Supported Agriculture - CSA subscription) can support you in reaching your healthy and creative cooking goals and helps support our broader mission in the community. Each week (or bi-week) you will receive a share of veggies from the farm and will have the option to fully customize your share and/or add on products. We also offer additional vegetables, as well as specialty items like fruit, gourmet mushrooms, eggs, chicken, and coffee, from other local producers.

If you don’t know if you can commit to a Veggie Share subscription, you can also choose to purchase store credit to use for individual purchases throughout the whole year. With your support, our farm community can grow, thrive and transform the way we eat and live!

Our Farm

Our small farm is in Middletown, Maryland - conveniently located less than a mile from I-70. What was once a “garden” has rapidly expanded and includes multiple production fields, as well as a high-tunnel for over-wintering greens. We also keep a small flock of heritage chickens.

Ultimately our hope is to build ecological havens on the farm to support biodiversity and to showcase the natural beauty of the local ecosystem for our visitors.

While we are not currently organically certified, we grow our food following the same high standards that apply to organically certified growers.

We do not use synthetic fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides on our production fields. Moreover, we are fostering a balanced ecosystem to support the growth of robust and nutritious plants.

Our Projects

Since 2025 we have been a partner farm with Farm to School Frederick (F2S). Their mission is to increase access to locally grown, nutritious food for all Frederick County residents, and their Veggie Van is a mobile market that brings affordable produce directly to the communities that need it most. By removing barriers like cost and transportation, the Veggie Van ensures that children, families, adults, and seniors have consistent access to the nutritious foods they need to thrive.

From 2023-2026 we partnered with our local health care system, Frederick Health, for a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) pilot project in support of the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP).  To support DPP participants in making healthy lifestyle changes, Frederick Health purchased weekly produce packages that were provided at no cost to groups of participants throughout the growing season. During the project, we delivered packages of fresh produce, along with recipes and healthy eating resources, and confirmed that ready access to fresh produce and education on healthy recipes was impactful for participants in working toward their healthy lifestyle goals.

community collaborations

In 2023, Pastor Fossett at Hopehill United Methodist Church reached out to the Coalition for a Healthier Frederick County for assistance with making his vision for a health fair for his congregation a reality! With support from Frederick Health, DeFeo Family Farm took part in the Hopehill UMC Health Fair by providing 200 lbs of fresh produce for attendees, along with healthy recipes.

In 2025, we brought 200 lbs. of fresh produce to the Urbana Volunteer Fire & Rescue Public Safety Day.
