Cabs Are Here!!!
A standing ovation for one of the kitchen's greatest supporting players.

In today's newsletter, the phrase "Cabs are heeere!" is relevant in more ways than one.
Anyone familiar with early-2010s reality TV may remember this catchphrase as supporting cast member DJ Pauly D's signature announcement whenever the taxis arrived for a night out on the Jersey Shore. As it happens, we just returned from Cape May, NJ, where we spent a little time at the shore, but a lot more time in the theater, cheering on Julia & her teammates at a national dance competition.
We couldn't be prouder of the dancers, not only for their outstanding performances, but especially for the kindness, encouragement, teamwork, and camaraderie they shared with one another this week. We're also grateful to the coaches and staff, whose dedication, patience, and team-focused leadership make every great performance possible. Their collective efforts were rewarded with a National Excellence in Technique Award for the studio, several national championship and runner-up finishes, and many top-10 placements and special awards. An exciting send-off to Julia's first year on the team came last night, when the musical theatre production of Scooby-Doo that she was in earned an 8th-place finish.
Meanwhile, back on the farm, an entirely different kind of "cab" arrived.
Watching the group dances this week was a wonderful reminder that not every performer needs to be center stage all the time. Great productions depend on individuals who know when to shine and when to support the group.
Cabbage has mastered that same skill in the kitchen, happily playing a supporting role in dishes like tacos, soups, stir-fries, salads, and egg rolls, where it adds texture and freshness without demanding attention. Yet when roasted into caramelized wedges, grilled over an open flame, or transformed into stuffed cabbage or slaw, it proves that it's perfectly capable of stealing the show.
Cabbage is the kind of reliable ingredient you can always count on. Dependable, versatile, and remarkably unassuming, it has nourished people across cultures and seasons for thousands of years. It grows well, stores for months, feeds many people, and adapts to an astonishing variety of dishes. Like the teammate who always shows up prepared and willing to do whatever is needed, cabbage has quietly earned its place as one of the kitchen's greatest supporting players, as well as an occasional star in its own right.
So, whether in a slaw, soup, or stir-fry, or as the star of the meal itself, we hope you'll also give cabbage an enthusiastic intro and well-deserved round of applause at your table this season!
